Compatible hardware
Hardware options for ScreenSoft. Choose a device based on the resolution, content and applications you need.
Requirements for your own computer
You can also run ScreenSoft on your own computer, even if it is not listed here. Compare its specifications with the requirements below and consider the content you intend to use. We use the Linux Ubuntu operating system.
| Parameter | Minimum requirements for Full HD video | Recommended configuration for UHD and applications |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Linux Ubuntu | Linux Ubuntu |
| Processor | 64-bit processor; for your own PC, Intel N95 / N100 or a processor with comparable performance as a baseline | Intel N97 or higher performance; Intel Core i5 or comparable performance for more demanding applications |
| RAM | 4 GB depending on platform; 8 GB recommended for your own PC | 16 GB recommended |
| Graphics and decoding | Hardware FHD video decoding and a working graphics driver in Ubuntu | Hardware UHD video decoding and graphics acceleration for applications in Ubuntu |
| Display output | 1920 Γ 1080; HDMI or DisplayPort to match the screen | 3840 Γ 2160; matching output, cable and screen |
| Storage | Capacity for Ubuntu, ScreenSoft and your content; prefer an SSD for a PC | SSD with spare capacity for UHD media and applications |
| Connection | Ethernet or stable Wi-Fi | Wired Ethernet recommended |
Requirements also depend on the platform. FHD configurations can start at 4 GB RAM; the H4 requires at least 8 GB. For your own PC, we recommend at least 8 GB RAM for FHD. For UHD and applications, we recommend 16 GB RAM and additional processing capacity for more demanding content.
For ARM boards, use the system image intended for the specific supported model.
For your own computer, check not only the processor and RAM, but also graphics support and hardware decoding in Ubuntu. A display output rated for β4Kβ does not by itself describe playback or application performance. For an LED screen, the resolution of the complete displayed content matters, rather than the physical screen size.
