Advertising playback mode

Choose the mathematical model that best matches how you sell commercial advertising. ScreenSoft sets it with you when your account is created.

Why this is set when the account is created

Different media owners sell advertising differently: as fixed positions in a repeating loop, as a share of available advertising time, or as a required number of plays. SLOT and IMPRESSION are two different mathematical models for building that advertising space. ScreenSoft therefore selects the appropriate model with you before commercial campaigns start.

Choose the model before selling commercial campaigns
Commercial campaigns can represent advertising already sold to your customers, with budgets, periods and delivery commitments attached. Once campaigns are created, changing the underlying model could change the meaning of what was sold. The playback mode is therefore locked after the first campaign is created. In SLOT mode, the number and duration of slots are locked as well. If the business model later needs to change fundamentally, contact ScreenSoft before planning new campaigns.

Quick comparison

I need to…Fixed slots in the loop (SLOT)Number of impressions (IMPRESSION)
Sell a fixed position such as “1 of 10 positions in the loop”✓ IdealPossible, but not a fixed loop position
Sell a percentage/share of advertising time✓✓ Flexible
Set a required number of plays per hour—✓
Use advertising spots with different durationsMore restrictive✓ Flexible
Keep every loop in a fixed slot structure✓—
Adapt media-space share by changing play frequency—✓
Explain a simple fixed product to an advertiser✓ Very simple✓, but expressed through frequency/time share
Fixed slots in the loop (SLOT)SLOT is a good fit when you sell standardised positions in a repeating loop and your advertising spots follow a predictable duration. A shorter or longer spot must fit the slot grid.
Number of impressions (IMPRESSION)IMPRESSION is more flexible when spot durations vary or when you sell plays or a share of advertising time. For example, 10 s × 36 plays per hour uses 10% of an hour; 5 s × 36 uses 5%.

Interactive applications and mode selection

SLOT and IMPRESSION define how advertising space is scheduled, not how long a game lasts or how it is controlled. When combining paid ads with interactive applications, consider this when selecting the company mode and test playback and reporting on the device.
