Uploading media and supported formats

Introduction and orientation

Find out which files you can upload, which limits apply and how to check that an upload succeeded.

Steps and settings

Supported formats and limits

Recommendation: prefer JPG/PNG/WebP for new images, MP4 for ordinary video and PDF for documents. The other listed formats remain supported inputs.

Supported office documents are converted to PDF; PDF is processed directly.
After upload, the system analyses ordinary video and automatically converts it to an internal H.265/HEVC output. The compatibility check for already compatible video uses HEVC, a maximum dimension of 3,840 px, up to 30 fps and a bitrate up to 30 Mbit/s. These values describe the internal compatible output; users do not have to prepare uploads to these exact parameters themselves.
The maximum size of one standard uploaded file is 1.1 GB. Transparent Alpha Video has a 2.1 GB limit.
TypeFormats
Images.jpeg, .jpg, .pjpg, .png, .webp
Video.mp4, .avi, .webm, .mov, .m4v, .mkv, .mpg
Transparent Alpha Video.mov (Apple ProRes with alpha channel)
Documents.doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .odt, .odp, .ods, .rtf, .pdf

The system accepts several input formats and automatically processes or converts them into the internal form required for playback.

Add media

  1. Open Media from the navigation.
  2. Click the + button in the lower-right corner.
  3. Select the media type you want to add.
  4. Choose the file in your operating system dialog. It appears in the media library after upload.

Multiple files and upload results

You can select multiple files of the chosen type in the file picker. Files are uploaded individually, with successful and failed items tracked separately. If only some uploads succeed, check the library and retry only the missing items. If a file exceeds the limit, reduce its size or choose another source file. Uploading, conversion and delivery to a device are three separate steps.
