AR Camera

Augmented reality that combines a live camera feed with alpha-channel video so digital content appears inside the real environment.

What it is and why to use it

AR Camera overlays video with a transparent alpha channel onto the live camera feed. Only the subject remains visible while the real environment comes from the camera.

When to use it

A bus-stop screen can show a tiger running through the real scene. Another use is a realistic virtual encounter with a celebrity, athlete or mascot.

Visitor experience

The visitor sees the real camera scene together with the inserted AR subject. A person can stand in front of the camera while a pre-recorded celebrity appears beside them.

What the administrator configures and sees

The administrator prepares the alpha video and configures when it appears, such as looping or a defined part of a sequence. Photo capture and delivery can be added as custom functionality but are not part of the basic AR Camera.

Create and configure

  1. Verify the camera with Camera.
  2. Prepare alpha-channel video with a transparent background.
  3. Create AR Camera and add the AR asset.
  4. Configure timing/looping as required.
  5. Verify scale and perspective on the target device and publish.

Publishing and operation

For realistic athlete/celebrity capture, follow the AR filming guidelines.

Scheduled publication

This application can be prepared in advance with a publication period defining when it should become available on the screen and when its publication should end. Outside the configured period it is not shown on the target device.

The application can therefore be created and configured ahead of time, with visitor availability starting and ending automatically according to the configured schedule, similarly to campaigns.
