ScreenSoft Docs / RSS Application

RSS Application

Automatically synchronized content from public or customer RSS/XML sources displayed in a ScreenSoft template.

What it is and why to use it

RSS connects an external data feed to ScreenSoft. New feed items appear in a prepared visual template without manual re-entry.

When to use it

Examples include news, local information, public notice boards and event calendars.

Visitor experience

Visitors see current feed items in the ScreenSoft template while synchronization happens automatically.

What the administrator configures and sees

The administrator prepares RSS configuration and the corresponding template/application. ScreenSoft uses GUID and change metadata to identify new, changed and removed items.

Create and configure

  1. Prepare the RSS/XML source according to the ScreenSoft RSS specification.
  2. Configure the source in RSS configuration.
  3. Create/enable the matching RSS application or template.
  4. Publish and verify incoming items.

Publishing and operation

RSS is designed for content that changes continuously at its source.

Scheduled publication

This application can be prepared in advance with a publication period defining when it should become available on the screen and when its publication should end. Outside the configured period it is not shown on the target device.

The application can therefore be created and configured ahead of time, with visitor availability starting and ending automatically according to the configured schedule, similarly to campaigns.
